Silkeborg Forsyning invests in CO2-neutral heat production
As a construction advisor, we have played a central role in the development of Silkeborg Forsyning’s green transition. We have prepared detailed project proposals for both electric boilers and heat pumps, considering energy efficiency, operational economy, and future-proofing. Additionally, we are actively involved in the procurement process and construction phase to ensure that the plants are built in accordance with the highest standards. Our advisory services support Silkeborg Forsyning’s goal of achieving CO2-neutral heat production that is both operationally stable and sustainable in the long term.
Our strategic plan for Silkeborg Forsyning is divided into three phases, with the first phase consisting of:
- A 20 MW biomass plant that burns garden and park waste
- A 50 MW electric boiler
- A 22 MW air-to-water heat pump system
The plants are expected to be fully operational by 2025 and will play a key role in Silkeborg Forsyning’s green transition. With a combination of biomass, electric boilers, and heat pumps, the dependence on fossil fuels will be significantly reduced. Silkeborg Forsyning estimates that these measures will result in an overall CO2 reduction of over 80%, making a substantial contribution to both local and national climate goals.

Calculations and models are the key
The initial phase is incredibly important to us, which is why we use our own digital modelling tool, AVPlan, during the early strategic phase. This tool uncovers, calculates, simulates, and models data, energy systems, and scenarios.
New production facilities represent a significant investment for our clients, so it’s essential for us as advisors to consider as many different parameters as possible before jointly deciding with the client which investment is optimal under the given circumstances. As decision-makers, clients need to feel confident that the various scenarios have been thoroughly tested before committing to an investment. And our calculation tool does exactly that.
Once the investment plan is in place, we use Modelica—another tool that focuses on optimizing operational control. It can simulate different operating situations and detect potential faults before the systems are put into use.
We continuously strive to optimize both the design and operation of the systems we implement. We have extensive expertise in using these tools as well as in operating the systems themselves. Our employees possess deep technical knowledge, ensuring that the plans we develop with our clients are based not only on theoretical insights but also on substantial technical and practical experience with the methods and systems involved.
